Midcentury Modern Style:

AN APPROACHABLE GUIDE TO INSPIRED ROOMS

  • Karen Nepacena

    AUTHOR, INTERIOR DESIGNER

While renovating our own midcentury home, I read every MCM design book I could find. But none felt like they were written for me – someone with a young family and a limited budget, yet a desire to preserve and honor my midcentury house. I was inspired to write this book to share what I’ve learned in a practical guide. Transforming a space doesn’t always require a big budget. Simply swapping one material for another or finding just the right vintage retro clock to accent a space can have a huge impact.

    PHOTOGRAPHER

As I contemplated how to best visually tell the story within this book, I thought a lot about the final product and who our readers would be. Home, for all of us, should be an aesthetically pleasing and energizing space, yet also functional and fit the lifestyle of its owners. It was important to me that the images didn’t feel overly produced or make the spaces seem out of reach. Karen and I worked closely to ensure my photography felt true to not only her design, but also to the family inhabiting the spaces. We started from scratch and directed the vision towards the type of book we’d both love to create and own.
